A Message from Andrew...

Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to serve you. As your student body president, I am YOUR representative and advocate. Though I have numerous goals towards improving our student experience, I need your input to learn how to best represent your interests. My door is always open so please feel free to contact me at any time if there is anything I can do to better work for you. I also encourage you to roll up your sleeves and join this SGA as we work to make a difference this year.

Bio

Andrew is a senior Government and Politics major and a graduate of the CIVICUS program. His campus leadership experience began his freshman year when he was elected to represent the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the University Senate. For the Student Government Association, Andrew registered student voters and lobbied in Annapolis as the Director of Governmental Affairs his junior year before being elected Student Body President. He has also served as the Chief Justice of the Interfraternity Council Judicial Board and as a member of numerous advisory boards. Andrew’s major focus this year has been fighting for higher education funding and the development of student housing and increasing the transparency of the Student Government Association.

Bio

Brad is a junior International Business and Government & Politics major from Pittsburgh, PA. As Senior Vice President, he focuses on campus issues, including transportation, safety, diversity, and any other issues that come up that affect our entire campus community. Some of his goals for this year include facilitating inter-departmental cooperation for improving safety on campus, improving the coverage of shuttle routes, and proposing changes to make this campus more bicycle-friendly. Outside of SGA, Brad also serves as an RA in Wicomico Hall.

Biography and Position Description:

Adesuwa, better know as Ade, is a senior biology major. As the Vice President of Academic Affairs, she is responsible for the academic wellbeing of the undergraduate student body. Her issues of concern include advising, student-faculty relationships and attendance policies to name a few. She serves as the chair of the SGA’s Academic Affairs Committee, which includes all the academic legislators and is open to all students, and the Provost Student Advisory Committee (ProSAC) which deals directly with the Provost’s office to address concerns facing the student body.

Ade is from Springdale, Maryland where she has lived for the majority of her life. She is new to the UMD Student Government Association but has a multitude of leadership experience. She started as a class representative in SGA meetings during the second grade and most recently was the President of the United Greek Council during the 2006-2007 academic year.

Major Goals:
  • Improving student/faculty relationships by expanding the student/faculty dinner
  • Working to improve advising for undergraduate students (especially transfer students)
  • Expanding the Collegiate Readership program
  • Making the Academic First Look Fair more student-friendly

Bio

Maria is a senior Government and Politics major who hopes to attend law school next semester. As VP of Finance, Maria is responsible for overseeing the allocation of Her extensive experience with the finance process includes two semesters on the Finance Committee, treasurer work for several student organizations and job experience with the SGA Accounts Office.

Maria's major goals for the year include:

  • Running two smooth, equitable and transparent funding processes
  • Exploring other funding processes that could be implemented to allow funds to be acquired more easily by student organizations
  • Assisting groups in the creation and spending of their budgets
